Sikmul — 'Plant' — is the room that started Ikseon-dong: the pioneering hanok cafe-bar whose conversion of a traditional house into coffee-by-day, natural-wine-by-night space set the template the entire district then followed. The dual identity runs on a hard 8pm line — coffee service ends, alcohol begins — so plan by craving; the signature croffle and basque cheesecake sell out by mid-afternoon on weekends, arguing for early arrival, which also wins the natural light the hanok's courtyard geometry rewards. House rules reflect the crowds: one drink per person minimum, staff-managed table moves, two-hour weekend limits. The resident cat, Odong, keeps afternoon hours. As both origin story and still-working room, it earns the pilgrimage: this is where the hanok-renaissance aesthetic of modern Jongno was effectively invented, and the wine list has only improved since.
