About

Neighborhood pork specialty spot near Cheonho Naengmyeon Alley, serving various specialty cuts including ddwittonggui and makchang.

Tucked into an alleyway near Cheonho Station—just off the district’s well-known naengmyeon alley—Kkangdon is an unpretentious neighborhood grill house dedicated to pork offal and specialty cuts. It functions as the kind of local drinking den where patrons wander in on foot after work, sit around sizzling round grills, and linger until the ten o'clock closing time, welcomed by hospitable owners who encourage guests to take their time. The kitchen specializes in lesser-seen pork cuts alongside grilled entrails. A major draw is the ddwittong-gui, a comprehensive platter of pork specialty cuts curated by the owner. The assortment loads the grill with neck meat (deolmisal), cheek (ppolsal), pork cheek skin (ppol-kkeopdaegi), jowl (hangjeongsal), tender scallop-cut meat (gwanja), mungtigi-sal, and snout meat (kotdeungsal). Despite the rich variety, the cuts grill up clean and surprisingly ungreasy, offering contrasting textures that range from gelatinous chew to firm, toothsome char. For offal fans, the makchang (pork abomasum) is equally dependable. The grilled entrails are impeccably cleaned, arriving entirely free of off-putting odors, crisping at the edges while retaining a satisfyingly springy bite. While classic fermented makjang sauce is omitted from the table, the kitchen compensates with a sprawling spread of home-style side dishes that reflect the owner’s seasoned touch. A boiling pot of kimchi-jjigae makes an essential table addition, its sharp, savory broth cutting through the fattiness of the meats and pairing naturally with cold bottles of soju. Compact and straightforward, Kkangdon delivers an honest, unvarnished look into Seoul’s after-hours barbecue culture, offering off-cut meats prepared with genuine care.
