About

Hidden omakase-style tuna sashimi bar in Yeomchang-dong featuring expertly aged tuna cuts served around an intimate U-shaped counter.

Tucked away along Yangcheon-ro between Deungchon and Yeomchang stations, Lee Eomcheongnan Tuna feels like an old-school neighborhood hideaway. Operating since 2005, the understated Gangseo spot seats just a dozen or so guests along a single U-shaped counter, placing diners face-to-face with an affable, spirited chef who orchestrates the entire evening from the center. Instead of overloading the counter with generic side dishes, the kitchen keeps the focus squarely on the fish. Set courses run across tiered price points—the foundational Nan, the mid-tier Eomcheongnan, and the top-tier E-Special. Rather than serving a pre-cut assortment all at once, the chef paces the meal cut by cut, adjusting to the rhythm of your drinks. The experience begins with a ritual: clean your hands, and the chef immediately sets down a pristine first bite, often crowned directly with fresh wasabi and coarse, aged salt. That mineral punch proves to be the night’s recurring signature, cutting effortlessly through the rich oils of otoro and cheek cuts. The repertoire goes well beyond standard sashimi plates. Alongside expertly thawed cuts, the chef showcases dry-aged tuna, yielding a uniquely tender and concentrated texture. Accompaniments are lean and purposeful: a small bowl of miso soup, agar weed in house ponzu, delicate monkfish liver (ankimo) that doubles as a rich dipping sauce, and crisp sheets of dried seaweed. As the course progresses, roasted tuna head and substantial tuna ribs make an appearance, offering deep, savory warmth. Diners frequently bring along their own bottles—wine corkage is available for twenty thousand won, chilled rapidly upon request—or opt for house sake. To close out the feast, regular patrons lean on the kitchen's comforting noodle bowls, pairing a piping-hot bowl of ramen with kimchi to round out the drinks. Because seats are limited and loyal locals fill the counter quickly, advance reservations are all but essential.
