Jangsu Otdak Samgyetang
장수옻닭삼계탕
About
A long-running neighborhood staple in Daerim-dong serving traditional chicken soup and herbal lacquer tree broth in a deceptively spacious dining room.
Operating along Daerim-ro in Yeongdeungpo since 1987, Jangsu Ot-dak Samgyetang is an old-school neighborhood fixture that surprises newcomers with just how cavernous it is inside. While its facade on the ground floor of Giyeong Building looks unassuming from the street, step through the doors and the dining room opens up dramatically, offering a dated, unpretentious dining hall atmosphere anchored by classic wet hand towels and seasoned service. The menu is stripped down to the bare essentials: standard samgyetang and its namesake ot-dak samgyetang, boiled with lacquer tree wood. For diners unfamiliar with lacquer chicken, the staff thoughtfully checks in first, distributing precautionary allergy pills to ensure guests can eat without worry. When the bubbling ttukbaegi lands on the table, the lacquer version stands out immediately
Local tips
- Staff offer allergy medication beforehand if you are trying the lacquer tree chicken soup for the first time.
- Parking is available on-site behind the building though spaces are tight.
- Choose between clear traditional samgyetang and brown-broth ot-samgyetang.
