About
Mangwon croquettes. Street food perfection.
The croquettes at this Mangwon Market stall come out of the fryer hot enough that the cheese inside still stretches when you bite in, but most customers eat them cold. They buy three or four varieties at a time—curry vegetable, pizza cheese, kimchi pork—for a thousand won each, wrap them in a plastic bag, and take them home to reheat in an air fryer. The stall operates just inside the market entrance, a few steps from where the Mangwon World Cup Market segment ends, and on weekends the line pushes back toward the main street. Staff work two deep-fryers simultaneously, dropping dough-wrapped fillings into oil while another person boxes orders and takes cash or Naver Pay. The menu board lists twelve varieties plus sticky rice doughnuts, all priced low enough that buying in bulk feels instinctive rather than greedy. The space is walk-up only—no seating, no tables, just a narrow counter facing the fryers. Steam rises in waves when a fresh batch hits the oil, and the smell is part carnival, part home kitchen. Regulars know the pizza version tastes like the filling from those convenience-store pizza buns, minus the sweetness. The vegetable croquette runs heavy on curry powder. The sticky rice doughnuts, fried to order, move faster than anything else on the board and disappear from the display case by early afternoon on Saturdays. Families buy mixed boxes; solo shoppers grab two for the walk home. Weekday mornings before eleven move quickly—five-minute waits, minimal crowding. Weekends stretch to half an hour when the market hits full capacity. The shop runs Monday through Saturday, closing Sundays, nine in the morning until nine at night with no break. Cash and Naver Pay only.
Local tips
- Arrive early (before 11:00) on weekends to avoid 30+ minute waits—lines move quickly but can be long.
- Buy multiple items: most croquettes/doughnuts cost only 1,000 KRW each, enabling affordable variety sampling.
- Use Naver Pay or cash for faster checkout; queue moves smoothly for takeout orders.
- Try the sticky rice doughnuts (찹쌀도너츠)—they're freshly fried and the most popular item.
- Eat immediately or reheat at home (airfryer/toaster oven)—cheese-filled items taste better warm.
