About
Art museum cafe in a hanok. Art + coffee + history.
Inside a timber-framed hanok tucked beside Art Sonje Center, ETBA Seoul pours espresso beneath rafters that smell faintly of old pine. The space opened permanently in autumn 2024 after a summer popup proved the concept: serious coffee in a courtyard that tourists stumble into by accident. The counter faces a central room where light streams through paper-paned doors onto low tables and carpet runners, every detail calibrated to sit quietly between the traditional architecture and the espresso machines. Outside, a wooden deck wraps around the courtyard under bamboo shade, and in early summer the hydrangeas along the wall bloom white against dark roof tiles. The pistachio cream latte—a house specialty—arrives thick enough to coat the spoon, nutty and sweet over espresso pulled long and bitter. The pozitano, another signature, layers lemon slush over a double shot; it tastes aggressively bright at first sip, mellowing as the ice dissolves into something sharp and drinkable. Weekday mornings draw solo regulars and gallery-hoppers who nurse cappuccinos on the terrace, but Saturday afternoons fill fast. By 1 PM the indoor tables are spoken for and the deck gets crowded in the sun, so the early-afternoon window between lunch and the weekend rush is your opening. The staff don't push English, but the menu board is readable and pointing works fine. Cash and card both accepted. Come before 3 PM on weekdays or plan to perch on the outdoor steps if you arrive later on Saturday. The terrace catches full sun until late afternoon, so bring a hat or claim the shaded corner table near the entrance if heat bothers you.
