About

Grilled meat specialist. The name means tear the meat.

Pork cooked on bone gets clammy and difficult to eat right—except when a restaurant pre-chars everything over charcoal and brings it to the table half-finished. At 뜯고기, jjokgalbi (neck-bone ribs) arrive already smoky, crusted dark on the bone side, pale and thick on the meat side. You flip nothing. The bone chars further while the meat side cooks through, absorbing more smoke. Staff provide cotton work gloves and disposables so you can pick up the rib and gnaw. The meat pulls away in chewy, juice-heavy strips. Regulars dip it in curry powder—a salty, faintly sweet funk that plays against the pork's char and the sweet soy glaze. The place runs like a 1970s after-work canteen: round tables packed close, walls papered with autographs and retro film posters, everyone shouting over the grill smoke. The rest of the menu leans on 72-hour dry-aged pork: samgyeopsal and mokssal that taste deeper and more savory than standard cuts, plus hangjeong-kkeoppdaegi (jowl skin) so thick it looks like a cross-section of a tire but eats clean and fatty without slick. Banchan runs to house-pickled radish, myeolchi-namul (salted wild greens), and scallion kimchi sharp enough to cut through the richness. The aehobak gochujang jjigae—a murky, rust-colored pot of summer squash, tofu, and pork scraps—functions as the evening's reset button: sweet from the squash, fiery from the paste, with enough pork fat to coat your spoon. Book a table via Catch Table two to three hours ahead on weekend evenings—walk-up waits routinely hit ninety minutes after six. Weekday lunch at 11:30 or weekend openings at one o'clock skip the line entirely. No parking, no English menu. Ordering "소금뜯고기" gets you the salt version; "간장숙성뜯고기" gets soy—start with soy to taste, then order salt for the char.

Local tips

  • Reserve via CatchTable 2-3 hours ahead on weekends—wait times regularly exceed 1-2 hours after 6 PM.
  • Arrive during opening (11:30 AM weekdays, 1 PM weekends) to avoid queues; staff grill meat for you so you can focus on conversation.
  • Order both salt and soy versions to compare; salt highlights meat's charred depth while soy satisfies initially but becomes heavy—start with soy for tasting.
  • Request side dishes like myulgi namul (seasoned wild greens) and fresh radish—these are essential for cutting through richness of aged pork.
  • Use public transport (용산역 1번 출구 10min walk)—no parking; nearby paid lots fill quickly during dinner service.
