About
A 24-hour oyster specialty eatery right outside Sindang Station serving bubbling oyster soup and fresh oyster bossam.
Right outside Exit 7 of Sindang Station, Gulyechan announces its presence with prominent oyster-centric signage along Dasan-ro. Operating around the clock—pausing only for an afternoon break between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM—this neighborhood staple draws an intergenerational crowd of solo diners, post-work gatherings, and local regulars packed closely together across its dining floor. The kitchen builds its entire repertoire around fresh oysters, served across hot broths and vibrant shared platters. The classic gulgukbap is assembled via the traditional toryeom method, repeatedly ladled with hot broth to warm the rice through without dulling the soup. The resulting bowl arrives loaded with oysters in a clean, lightly seasoned, soothingly clear broth. For those seeking spice, the mushroom and oyster sundubu (beoseot gul sundubu) turns up the heat, combining velvety uncurdled tofu with a peppery, brisk kick. Seasonal cravings are answered with comforting bowls of gultteokguk (rice cake soup with oysters), while stone-pot enthusiasts gravitate toward the oyster dolsot bibimbap for its crispy, scorched rice crust. Evenings call for drinks paired with platters of gulbossam or gulmuchim. The gulmuchim tosses plump, raw oysters in a sharp, sweet-and-sour red dressing that cuts cleanly through rich meats. Folded alongside steamed pork slices and crisp fresh greens, it serves as the centerpiece for lively tables sharing bottles of soju or bokbunja (black raspberry wine). Crispy pan-fried oyster pancakes (guljeon) round out the spreads for larger parties. The banchan is minimal, restricted to little more than fresh cabbage kimchi and chili peppers, but the oyster-forward mains require little else. With swift turnover, attentive floor staff, and deep pots simmering through all hours of the day, Gulyechan is a dependable Jung-gu haven for briny comfort food, particularly when temperatures drop and the room fills with steaming earthenware bowls.
