오렌지감자탕
About
A 25-year-old neighborhood staple in Gaebong-dong serving hearty, deeply flavorful pork backbone stew with tender meat and savory dried radish greens.
For a quarter of a century, Orange Gamjatang has anchored Gaebong-ro, serving as a reliable neighborhood fixture on the walk toward Gaebong Station. Inside, the dining room is spacious and unpretentious, equipped with child seats and plenty of wide tables that accommodate multigenerational families alongside solo diners eating quickly between shifts. During the day, sunlight streams over quiet tables, while evenings often bring a bustling, conversational hum from local regulars. The kitchen’s focus remains firmly on simmered pork spine. Ordered as a communal hot pot, the gamjatang arrives mounded with leafy perilla, tender braised radish greens (ugeoji), and a dusting of perilla seed powder. Long-simmered bone broth yields a deep, savory backbone that balances the earthy nuttiness of the seeds with a creeping, peppery kick. Beneath the greens, the meat pulls away effortlessly from the bone, tender enough for children to eat and devoid of any pork gaminess. Dip the shredded pork into mustard soy sauce, drop in chewy hand-pulled sujebi dough noodles, and scrape up crisp cubes of tart kkakdugi alongside mild green peppers. When the broth boils down to its concentrated essence, finishing with kimchi-flecked bokkeumbap—pressed and toasted against the metal pot—is customary. For solo eaters, the individual ppyeo haejangguk delivers a substantial bowl holding two hefty pork bones submerged with greens and rice. While early-morning batches can occasionally lean lighter before the cauldron has simmered down for the night, the portion size is consistently filling. Running from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM daily, Orange Gamjatang remains a sturdy, unhurried outpost for hearty comfort food in Guro.
