About

Sinchon sujebi. Student favorite, cheap and filling.

Since 1988, this single-room shopfront near Sinchon Station has served two things only: hand-torn sujebi and kimbap. The menu hasn't expanded. The price—5,000 won for a bowl—borders on anachronistic in 2025 Seoul. Walk in at noon and you'll see office workers hunched over steaming bowls, grandmothers meeting for lunch, students killing time between classes. The kitchen works without pause; orders land on tables within five minutes. The sujebi arrives in broth made from sagol, beef leg bones simmered until the liquid turns milky and rich. Strips of zucchini and carrot float on top, still crisp. The sujebi itself is what regulars come for: torn so thin it's nearly translucent, soft enough to dissolve on the tongue but with just enough chew to remind you it was shaped by hand moments ago. Eat it plain first—the bone broth carries enough depth on its own. Halfway through, if you want heat, stir in the daedalgi from the table, the red chili paste that turns the soup rust-colored and sharp. Kkakdugi, house-made daily, sits in a communal container; grab more when you need it. The 2,000-won kimbap, a single modest roll, works better than it should dunked in the broth until the rice softens. Visit after 2pm to skip the lunch crush, or accept a 10- to 30-minute wait if you arrive between 11:30 and 1:30. Cash recommended. No parking, no English menu, no fuss. Closed Sundays.

Local tips

  • Lunch peak hours (11:30-13:30) see 10-30min waits; visit after 2pm for faster seating
  • Try sujebi plain first to enjoy the rich broth, then add daedalgi (red chili paste) halfway through for variety
  • Only 5,000 KRW per bowl—bring cash as card availability unclear; perfect budget meal in Seoul
  • Thin noodles soften quickly in hot broth—eat immediately after serving for best texture
  • Gkkakdugi (radish kimchi) refill available at table; ask staff 'gkkakdugi jomdaejuseyo' for more
