About

Historic Euljiro institution celebrated for thinly sliced frozen Hanwoo sirloin grilled over charcoal, complemented by seasoned scallions and beef doenjang-jjigae.

Tucked near Euljiro 1-ga Station in Jung-gu, Oryukdo presents the weathered, seasoned charm of a classic Seoul *nopo*. Behind its vintage signage, the space features dedicated dining rooms fitted with wardrobes for outerwear and neatly arranged table seating, making it a reliable destination for company dinners and celebratory gatherings. Though its name might evoke a coastal seafood house, Oryukdo is devoted to high-end Korean beef cooked over charcoal. The house signature is flash-frozen Hanwoo sirloin (*deungsim* and marbled *kkot-deungsim*), sliced remarkably thin to order. Each guest receives their own pair of tongs, turning the meal into an individualized, fast-paced rhythm at the grill. Because the beef is cut thin, it requires gentle handling over the embers—just a short sear until the juices bead across the surface. Swiped through sesame oil and salt or paired with the heavily seasoned scallion salad, the beef melts immediately on the tongue. Savvy regulars know to ask the proprietor for a raw egg yolk to mix into the *pachae*, softening the scallion's sharp punch with rich, creamy depth. While dinner prices run steep, the daytime lunch course offers a structured, accessible alternative. The midday set pairs Hanwoo salt-grilled beef with a refreshing side of cold *dongchimi* noodles, a fluffy steamed egg (*gyeranjjim*), and tart, crisp kimchi. The true centerpiece of the finale, however, is the beef *doenjang-jjigae*. Served individually or ladled out alongside bowls of rice, the stew is hearty and spicy, packed with chunky scallions and Hanwoo beef simmered down until the broth carries a deep, savory profile reminiscent of slow-braised *jangjorim*. Mashed over warm rice, it cleanses the palate of rendered fat and delivers a deeply satisfying end to the meal, punctuated only by a chilled cup of plum tea or coffee before you head back onto the bustling streets of Euljiro.
