About
Cozy single-chef meat hideaway near Seoul Forest serving pre-seared Iberico pork and aged lamb chops paired with individual kimchi stews.
Tucked into a quiet alley near Seoul Forest and the Trimage complex, Ganaesugongeop Gogitjib operates on an intimate scale. Run entirely by a single chef—formerly of Wolfgang’s Steakhouse—this four-table hideaway opens for just a few evening hours each night. With the owner handling prep, grilling, and service on his own, guests grab their own beer and soju from the coolers, giving dinner the casual, self-directed rhythm of an insider retreat. Meat here gets the steakhouse treatment: carefully aged cuts receive a blistered initial sear in the kitchen before landing on your table's grill. The aged Iberico pork collar emerges crisp at the edges and richly juicy, while the French rack lamb chops are tender, completely devoid of gaminess, and easy to manage right down to the bone. Instead of conventional barbecue accompaniments, platters arrive like plated entrées, framed by zucchini, eggplant, king oyster mushrooms, and tender Napa cabbage. The sides reflect the kitchen’s cross-cultural, chef-driven streak. Individual earthen pots of tart, peppery kimchi stew packed with pork are presented per person so diners do not have to share. Tangy, pungent gat-kimchi (mustard leaf kimchi) and pickled radishes cut through the fat, while a bright, herb-forward chimichurri sauce pairs seamlessly with the lamb. To finish, tables bypass the usual cold noodles in favor of minari aglio e olio, an aromatic pasta toss loaded with punchy water dropwort that clears the palate. With only four tables and limited operating hours, booking ahead is practically essential for a seat at this understated Seongsu gem.
